About Wedding Licences

Wedding licences can be purchased at the “Clerk’s Office” at any Town or City Hall within the Province of Ontario.

An Ontario wedding licence is valid for 90 days, after which it “expires”.

Generally you need two pieces of photo ID, a final copy of your divorce decree (or certificate of proof of death of your former spouse) and your fee.

Waiting time to purchase your licence is usually on a "while you wait basis".

Once you have your licence in hand, you are legally able to get married in Ontario.

A divorce certificate from a country outside of Canada requires additional procedures.

Contact your local city/town hall for details.
